What This Archive Covers

TimberfoldArchive documents the structural, material, and historical dimensions of horizontal log construction as practiced in the Italian Alps — specifically in South Tyrol (Alto Adige), Trentino, and the adjacent Dolomitic valley municipalities. The scope includes pre-industrial vernacular building, the technical analysis of surviving structures, and the contemporary application of Strickbau and Blockbau principles in new construction and restoration.

The archive does not cover timber-frame construction in the post-and-beam or half-timber (Fachwerk) traditions, nor does it address CLT or engineered wood products except where they appear in hybrid configurations alongside traditional log-wall elements.

Scope and Sources

Content draws on published fieldwork, provincial heritage inventories, structural engineering literature, and technical documentation produced by institutions including the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, the CNR Italy wood science unit, and the CasaClima energy agency. All factual claims are referenced to source material where possible.

The archive does not represent any construction company, material supplier, or professional association. There is no commercial relationship with any external entity referenced in the content. External links lead to publicly accessible institutional sources only.
